Enrollment in Brainerd schools continues to climb steadily, with an opening day head count of 7,042, a 3.4 percent increase over the 6,813 on first day of classes last year. That represents the third increase of 3 percent or more in the last four years.

Little Falls dropped the Warrior volleyball team 18-3 and 18-16 in a match last night Seven of the Flyers 18 points in the 1st game came on aces. Brainerd’s 1983 captains were announced as Janet Klang, Sharon Imgrund and Carla Link – all seniors.

The Clow Stamping Co. won its request for a permit following an hour of discussion by the county planning commission on ordinances for the take-over of a business closed for 12 months. Clow will take over the former Del-Ray Tool plant in Lake Edward Twp.

A crowd estimated at about 6,000 found Labor Day entertainment at an air show sponsored by the Civil Air Patrol and the Brainerd Civic Assn. The show featured parachute jumps, airplane rides and model airplane demos. Over 400 pilots attended.

Gala festivities are planned for the deciding game of the Crow Wing County League at Mogenson’s on S. Long Lake. 1st half champs, the Long Lake Giants, won the 1st game 12-11, and 2nd half winners S. Long Lake evened the series with a 14-11 victory Sunday.
