To applause, the county board approved “slow wake/no wake” zones on several channels of the Whitefish chain of lakes. Water patrol officer Neal Gaalswyk, who noted a boat was swamped and capsized on one of those channels, said the county would put up signs.

A car driven by a Brainerd woman plunged off the northside approach to the Mississippi bridge on Mill Avenue, but stopped before going into the water. The car skidded for 1,000 feet before hitting the railing. Sheriff Roy Wicklund arrested the driver for drunk driving.
