It’s not too late. For those who have been putting off buying a house, or refinancing, interest rates dropped below 7 percent last week. Rates, which haven’t been this low in decades, went to 6.5 percent for a 15-year mortgage, and 6.8 percent for 30 years.

Glen MacMillan watched an exodus of people of means from the Pine River area, selling lake homes and moving south. He didn’t like it, so he spearheaded a housing development on the Pine River Golf Course to keep those folks here part of the year.

District Judge Warren Saetre granted an injunction which will prevent an open air music festival from being held at Donnybrooke Raceway on Sunday. He said organizers were not authorized by permit and that the festival would cause a breakdown in police control.

Cole’s Sports Shop, which downed 2nd half champ American Legion in its last game, ran into a surprise in the YMCA City Softball playoffs. They went down to a 13-2 defeat at the hands of King’s Sporting Goods as Whitey Palmquist threw a no-hitter at them.
80 years ago (1933)
Between 800 and 900 children were packed into the Paramount Theatre on Saturday morning at the J.C. Penney Co. free movie event. The Penney Co. hosts the kiddies in the annual event and a good bill of movies was arranged.
100 years ago (1913)
An automobile and baby carriage nearly collided on Laurel Street near Sixth yesterday. The lady driver of the car retained her presence of mind and ran the auto onto the curb near the sandwich shop. In quick thinking she showed herself the equal of any man.
