The Brainerd School Board decided to pay half the cost for building a new double tennis court and re-surfacing the present courts at Gregory Park. The Brainerd City Council last night also voted to pay the other half of the cost of the tennis courts.

“Even during the long months, when we knew only that our son was missing, I always believed he was alive,” said Mrs. Hiram Floyd of Brainerd. Her son, Herbert, 24, was just released from a North Korean prison camp. He was captured more than two years ago.

The rivers in the Brainerd lakes region, including the Mississippi, are responsible for a new industry that now employs 15 and by next year perhaps 100. It is “clamming,” and the clamshells are sent to Muscatine, Iowa, where they are made into buttons.

Brainerd people as a rule are unaware of a new industry operating in the basement of the Brainerd Grocery Co. Here it is that the Brainerd Pickling Co. is receiving 25 to 30 loads of cucumbers a day and pickling them. They have contracts with farmers and truck gardeners.
