Jeremy Fyle of Burnsville, formerly of Nisswa, was in 6th place after the opening leg of the I-500 Snowmobile Race from White Bear Lake to Brainerd. Craig Feierabend, his father, Tom, and D.J. Dondelinger were all in the top 22 finishers.

30 years ago (1983)

About 2,000 snowmobile fans stood in warm temperatures in Walker to watch drivers complete leg two of the Winnipeg to St. Paul International 500 race. Jim Dano of Nisswa, in 5th place after the first leg, burned out his engine shortly after leaving Crookston.

Walker defeated Brainerd by a score of 19 to 11 in the basketball game at the high school auditorium. Little Tucker, weighing 75 pounds, was opposed by a 180 pound husky from the woods. In weight, speed and team work Walker excelled Brainerd.
