30 years ago (1983)

Mark Sundquist, night manager of Hardees on S. 5th Street, was jumped and robbed while going to make a night deposit. Sundquist was jumped as he walked from the restaurant to his truck. The two thieves grabbed a bag containing $1,000 and ran toward the river.

40 years ago (1973)

Burglars made off with an engagement ring and two watches after ransacking a trailer home on Route 2, Pequot Lakes. Officers said the home was extensively damaged when the burglars turned on a water faucet and left it running.

60 years ago (1953)

Friday night’s Central 6 conference clash between Brainerd and Aitkin has been canceled due to the flu epidemic here. The two coaches agreed to postpone the clash after Coach Fred Kellett announced that ten members of his 12-man squad are sick at home.

80 years ago (1933)

Brainerd high, in its hardest game thus far, and one that approached a district tournament test, defeated St. Cloud 39-28. The crowd present, over a thousand, was the best of the season. Brainerd played nice basketball, heads up, with exceptional teamwork.

100 years ago (1913)

Tuesday evening the Eagles lodge held their annual installation of officers. The occasion was made memorable by the splendid repast served by chef “Buff” McNaughton. His culinary triumph was rabbit bouillon. Over 200 Eagles ate it and cried out for more.
