Indianapolis Colts punter Rohn Stark, a native of Pine River, has been selected to the AFC Pro Bowl squad for the fourth time. Stark is second in the AFC with a 45.3-yard punting average.

30 years ago (1982)

The county sheriff’s department is searching for suspects in a car theft last night from an area body shop, Lakes Area Paint and Body on Hwy 371. The car, a 1977 Chevrolet Camaro, is owned by Alan Wallace, a California resident now staying in Brainerd.

40 years ago (1972)

Police officer Glen Knight left this arrest report for officers arriving on Dec. 26. Large male with white beard. Surname: Claus. First Name: Santa. Address: North Pole. Crime: Prowling about on rooftops. Tow truck will bring in the sleigh; nine reindeer escaped.

60 years ago (1952)

Last year Tom Templeton, then chief of police, showed new chief Louis Rofidal how to trim the city Christmas tree. The tree has always been the responsibility of the police department. But Templeton, though retired, is back again, trimming the tree.

80 years ago (1932)

The Elks Christmas party for kids was an unqualified success, with 1,700 taxing capacity of both Palace and Paramount Theatres. Features included a Mickey Mouse cartoon, a Buck Rogers western and Our Gang comedy. Popular Elk, Tom Walsh, was Santa Claus.

100 years ago (1912)

Along with shell games and other ancient schemes to make money, is the story of the Spanish prison and the Russian nobleman held there. He has $480,000 and will give one-third to a person kind enough to help him. C. Katz of Brainerd is the latest to get this appeal.
