30 years ago (1982)

Burlington Northern, Inc., in Brainerd and Baxter is one of the most dangerous hazardous waste sites in the country, according to a list released by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. All 418 sites are eligible for federal cleanup money.

40 years ago (1972)

A full agenda before the Crow Wing County Planning Commission kept members and interested persons in the courthouse until after midnight. Most discussion concerned plans for a ski hill and golf course north of Whitefish Lake, and placement of highway signs.

60 years ago (1952)

Brainerd’s finely-conditioned Golden Gloves boxing squad showed great form in taking 11 of 14 bouts from a highly regarded Detroit Lakes team. Another large crowd filled the armory to watch trainer Tom Hall’s charges in a series of fine matches, two won by TKO.

80 years ago (1932)

There will be no children in Crow Wing County deprived of a visit from Santa Claus this year. The Brainerd Dispatch-Palace Theatre movie was attended by 800 children, whose price of admission was a toy, either used or new. All will go to the needy.

100 years ago (1912)

George A. Silk, editor of the Pine River Sentinel, was a Brainerd visitor today. He said the most exciting thing in Pine River this week was a rabbit hunt in which 361 were bagged on a Sunday afternoon.
