20 years ago (1992)

(Photo) A total of 350 gifts will be donated to the Salvation Army this Christmas from the Potlatch Mill’s Sharing Tree program, 275 from employees and 75 from the corporation. Committee members include Laurie Miller and Kim Feist.

30 years ago (1982)

Junior high swimmer Bill McCollough set a school record 28.9 in the 50-yard butterfly and teamed with Scott Gurtin, Todd Olson and Steve Wise to set a record of 1:48.9 in the 200-yard freestyle relay against St. Cloud North. Brainerd won 79-38.

40 years ago (1972)

The Warrior hockey team, not yet scheduled to open its regular schedule, couldn’t turn down an opportunity to play St. Cloud Cathedral at their indoor arena. They got a 3-2 win on goals by John Rehberger, Jeff and John Wiltse. Paul Steffen had 30 stops in goal.

60 years ago (1952)

Over 1,500 Brainerd boys and girls, from tiny tots to age 14, are invited to attend the Elks Lodge theatre Christmas party Saturday. Tonight the Elks will convene a mammoth sacking bee for nuts and candy to be distributed. The party has been held for 30 years.

80 years ago (1932)

Brainerd’s high school Warriors look ahead to their battle with Cass Lake next Friday after trouncing Aitkin in their first conference challenge. Smith scored 13 and Swanson 12 as Aitkin offered little opposition, Brainerd piling up a 43-17 count for the win.

100 years ago (1912)

The Soo Line Railroad, according to a reliable source, will in the spring put in a regular three-hour service of a gasoline car. It will carry 70 passengers and cover Cuyuna, Riverton, Crosby, Deerwood, Lawler and return, thus making eight trips per day.

Why did they call it a gasoline car?? Didnt know they even had gas yet in your day??

& how was the weather S of the border?? Was Jose,Jos-B & Jos-C still there?? How many pesos for a seeester now??
