The public will have one last say before a route for the Hwy 371 bypass is designated. MnDOT has released a revised draft of the Tier 1 environmental impact statement. After a public hearing, MnDOT will choose one of two remaining routes.

The O’Brien Department Store will close its doors in February and reopen a few weeks later as an Ehler’s Fashion Center operated by new owners, it was announced today by Tom O’Brien. He will open an office on S. 8th Street to conduct other family business.

An official report signed by the recount board and turned into district court today showed Charles Halsted won the state representative race by 162 votes over Verner Anderson. Anderson led by 24 votes on Election Day, but errors were found in the Crosby votes.

Answering the challenge of helping the needy without solicitation, and exerting its characteristic generosity, the Brainerd Elks Lodge sent in the first donation to the Brainerd Community Relief fund drive. The check was for $25. Goal is $5,000.
100 years ago (1912)
M.D. Stoner, manager of the Cuyuna Range Power Co., is buying turkeys today to provide a Thanksgiving dinner for his pole line crews which are now camped near the city limits at East Oak Street.

That is by no means a "bypass". The DOT sure pulled one over on the taxpayers with this fiasco. Everyone who worked on the design of that project should be tared and feathered and ran out of town. Where else have you seen a project where they cut down miles of trees to make way for a highway only to come back and replant the same cleared area with trees. And now they have repaved it with stuff that makes it the noisiest highway in Minnesota.
Helping the needy without solicitation
sure became a pipe dream in the world of today with every alleged "poor" person receiving from local, state, and federal agency, not to mention the ever growing "charities" that are designed to make one feel good, while actually making some fat cat richer by the donation.
