20 years ago (1992)

The Brainerd Area United Way has topped its 1992 goal by nearly a thousand dollars. Meeting the goal for the 17th straight year, United Way reports donations of $236,000 so far. This year’s goal of $235,000 was a $15,000 increase from last year.

30 years ago (1982)

Police Chief Louis Rofidal has received a telegram from the FBI stating that a 1953 Plymouth Cranbrook stolen from Hanning Motors here has been found in Colorado. A man employed by the auto dealer for one week in July is being held.

80 years ago (1932)

Game warden A. P. Cardle received a letter from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture stating that the banded duck shot by E.P. Peterson on Gull Lake had been banded in Louisiana, Dec. 3, 1931. A duck shot earlier by Police Chief Templeton was also banded there.

100 years ago (1912)

County Auditor Smart has issued over 400 big game licenses and had to send for more as his quota was used up. John Mutch has returned from a hunting trip and brought home a duck for every one of his friends, and Mutch has a lot of friends.
