On paper it was supposed to be a lopsided mismatch. Unbeaten Cambridge, ranked 2nd in the state Class AA poll, was an overwhelming favorite. But Brainerd scrapped gallantly, before succumbing to a late TD with 1:47 left to lose the Section 7AA final, 18-12.

(Editorial) One would have to say that we, as a nation, are obsessed with politics and campaigning. We think our system of electing and governing is the best known to man. We just wish our leaders would spend more time governing and less time getting elected.

Charles Halsted, who lost to Verner Anderson in his bid for State Representative from District 53, has asked for a recount. Because the margin was just 24 votes, Halsted says a change of just one vote per thousand votes cast would make him the winner.

The Brainerd City Council has sent a resolution of appreciation to the U.S. Coast Guard for naming its new athletic stadium in New London, Conn. in memory of Cadet Henry Lloyd Jones, a Brainerd High School graduate who was lost at sea on July 3, 1927.
100 years ago (1912)
The Ingalls Motor Boat Co. is having plans drawn for a large new launch, which will be built over the winter and launched next spring. During the 1912 season they hauled an enormous amount of freight and thousands of passengers across Serpent Lake.
