Telephone service was disrupted for two hours in Brainerd-Baxter on Sunday, the second time in less than a week. The repair foreman for U.S. West said it was similar to the first incident and probably caused by dirt in a switch at the central office.

The concept of a public safety director to run both Brainerd’s police and fire departments ran into opposition at the city council meeting. The idea would save money, but members speculated the proposed charter change would stand little chance if put to a referendum.

Sgt. Steve Wiltz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Wiltz, Route 4, Brainerd, is a member of a unit at Ellsworth AFB that has been honored for rescue and recovery work after the flash flood that devastated Rapid City, South Dakota, in June.

Congressman C. A. Lindbergh, city treasurer A. M. Opsahl and R. M. Sheets returned from a duck hunt to Itasca County. They bagged 39. Lindbergh was the crack shot, for he has handled a gun since childhood. They went by auto to Ball Club, then by steamer.
