30 years ago (1982)

Champions in four divisions were crowned at the Brainerd Golf and Country Club. Rick Harms defeated Butch Bakken for the men’s title; Sandy O’Day topped Linda Schmid for the women’s crown; Wayne Fezler won the senior title; and Mike Beyer was junior champ.

40 years ago (1972)

A burglary at Squaw Point Resort in Cass County netted the thieves about $350 in cash plus two cases of liquor it has been learned here. The Cass County sheriff’s office has refused to release any information on the incident.

60 years ago (1952)

Perry Hickerson of Brainerd took top honors in the South Long Lake Gun Club trap shoot, blasting 49 of 50 targets. Charlie Busbey was second with 40 for 50, and K. C. Storm hit 35 of 50 for third spot.

80 years ago (1932)

Shortly after attendants finished cleaning Murray’s Pine Tree Inn early this morning, this colorful night spot was consumed by flames. Residents of Nisswa rushed to the scene but were helpless to put out the fire. Mrs. Murray, owner, said she would try to rebuild.

100 years ago (1912)

A heavy rainstorm drenched Brainerd and vicinity last night and most slept quietly until early morning when a crash of thunder shook houses and broke windows. A bolt of lightning put phones out of order and it will take several days to repair them.
