20 years ago (1992)

Two Brainerd rookie stock car drivers enjoyed big nights at North Central Motor Speedway. Nate Thiesse won his third straight Mini Stock feature while Dan Yaunick posted heat and feature wins in the Super Stock division.

30 years ago (1982)

(Photo) Burlington Northern employees tear up the railroad line between Brainerd and Little Falls about one mile south of Brainerd. The line, which has not been used extensively for passengers or freight in some time, is being phased out.

40 years ago (1972)

The largest crowd in history attended the Crow Wing County Fair yesterday. An estimated 16,100 persons came through the gates, bringing total attendance to 32,500. The big attraction was the Demolition Derby, and thousands jammed the grandstand.

60 years ago (1952)

Two men, wanted by the FBI and the State Crime Bureau, walked into Sheriff Roy Wicklund’s office this morning and surrendered. Both had been AWOL from the Navy, been captured and sent back to their ship, when they escaped again.

80 years ago (1932)

Golfers from several different states, including a large delegation from the Twin Cities, converged on Brainerd and the Pine Beach Golf Course for the third annual classic. Qualifying for the assault on Joe Ryan, defending champion from Brainerd, has begun.

100 years ago (1912)
