20 years ago (1992)

The Minnesota Army National Guard has promoted Chaplain Stephen Schaitberger to Lt. Colonel. His assignment is as chaplain to the 1st Brigade of the 34th Infantry Division. Rev. Schaitberger has been rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brainerd for 12 years.

30 years ago (1982)

(Photos) A 9-10 walleye was caught in 13 feet of water by George Cooper, Jr., of Brainerd, using a Suick-Jerk Bait. Paul Bloom, Brainerd, hooked this 10-5 walleye on a Big “K” Jig-nightcrawler in 22 feet of water. Nisswa Bait and Tackle took the photos.

40 years ago (1972)

A hit-run car was found mired down in the muddy area behind Evergreen Cemetery yesterday after striking a car at the intersection of Washington and North 8th. The doors of the hit-run car were locked and no one was around. Police are investigating.

60 years ago (1952)

Two performances of world famous Lee Martin and his Casino Kids have been scheduled for this week at Bar Harbor. The group of water skiing artists comes from Lake Minnetonka with the aim of acquainting everyone with their easy-to-learn techniques.

80 years ago (1932)

To stimulate interest in golf, and to promote possible membership for next year, the directors of the Brainerd Country Club have voted to throw open play to all residents for the rest of the season. The public is invited to play at a rate of $1.00 per day.

100 years ago (1912)

As George Ramsey was driving into Sylvan, the young colt which accompanied his team took fright at a passing freight train and raced with, and kept abreast of, the train until coming upon the Gull River bridge. There the frightened animal fell off the bridge and drowned.
