HealthRight, a plan to make health care more affordable and accessible, is not “AllRight,” area hospital administrators indicated. They said the bill, if passed, would tax the sick and strain rural hospitals, making a serious financial blow to them.

Sizeable deposits of manganese, possibly the largest in the nation, are buried in the Cuyuna Range, says the Minnesota Geological Survey. A geologist says the deposit in Crow Wing County has the potential to supply the United States for 14 years.

Major Glendon Perkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Perkins of Crosslake, still a prisoner of war in North Vietnam for the past six years, received an Air Force promotion. Since his capture his parents, wife and four children have received only occasional mail from him.

Remodeling his plane, and confident it will pass rigid air tests, Emil Kunde will move his Alco Sport Monoplane to Rosko Field. It failed to get airborne with a motorcycle engine last fall, so Kunde has replaced it with a 45 HP Model A Ford motor this year.

The pumping station boasts a new fire whistle which got its first tryout on the night of the Louis Sehrlund fire. It has a deep tone like a train whistle. The water and light board said the whistle will be keyed higher so people will not imagine it is a freight train coming.

So did any mining of manganese ever take place in Cuyuna area in the last 30 years?
Crow Wing Power
built a facility, north of Emily, to mine manganese 2 years ago. Now I think it may be stalled, due to environmental proponents. I believe the Emily flap of a few weeks ago may be part of it.
