(Photo) Members of the South Long Lake Gun Club broke up blocks of lake ice which will be stored and used to cool beer for their annual fish fry on May 21. The men have been holding the fish fry since their club was formed in 1948.

Leah Frey, 24-year-old lyric soprano from Crosby, is well on her way to a goal she set in childhood ... a career in the opera. She has been studying in Germany under a German government grant after being named a winner in a national Metropolitan Opera audition.

A “hard times” party was held by the “Fifty Twosomes” dance club Friday evening at Club LaGuyal. Prizes were given for the best costumes. The committee was composed of the Paul Reads, the James Maddens and the Ray Bangs.

Evidence in the pheasant trapping case of a farmer living seven miles west of Brainerd was considered in municipal court today. The county attorney charged that the farmer set traps for pheasants near corn stalks, but the defense said the traps were set for weasel.
