20 years ago (1992)

The Warrior girls, ranked 7th in Class AA, managed a 64-42 conference win over Rocori despite some ragged play, improving to 18-1. Among the two teams’ combined 50 turnovers, traveling was called so often they could have earned frequent flyer miles.

30 years ago (1982)

(Photos) Lenore Wilmes of Brainerd caught this 9-7 walleye in 18-feet of water on Gull Lake, in what she described as “mighty exciting action.” Chris Mudford, Brainerd speared this 14-7 northern and weighed it in at Nesheim Bait Shop.

40 years ago (1972)

John Straka and Wayne Caughey, who have paced Warrior scoring all season, combined for 54 counters in Brainerd’s 79-52 smashing of visiting Granite Falls. It was their 13th win in 18 starts as coach Corky Johnson’s crew finishes with Bemidji and Grand Rapids.

Two speed battles on the Brainerd rink are scheduled when the Brainerd Red Devils clash with Staples on Sunday and C-I on Monday. The Red Devils are 7-0 on the season. The Flying Aces of C-I are particularly strong, having just trounced Aitkin by 20-1.

100 years ago (1912)

Deerwood people were much put out because the “Balkan Princess” performance in Brainerd was cancelled. Many of the young mining men had made arrangements for a special train and had a theatre party planning to attend the show.
