A year ago today, the canine unit of the county sheriff’s office apprehended a man who abducted and assaulted three women near Aitkin. Since then the man was sentenced to 90 years in prison, and the dog, Joker, has died. Deputy Tim Pickar has lost his partner.

A “Living Christmas Tree” graces the grounds of the Brainerd Public Library at 7th and Washington Streets. The spruce was donated by Pete Cardle in 1952 and planted by the Brainerd Flower Society. Now, at 20-feet, the tree needs Water & Light help to light it.

Brainerd Warrior hopes for a third straight Central Six conference crown were set back with a second straight loss, 43-36 at Little Falls. Coach Fred Kellett was so upset with play that he benched his complete starting five for the entire second half of the game.

A small Boston bulldog, named “Snooks,” and owned by Lt. Bob Titus of the state Highway patrol, has a unique talent. He can take a tire casing, push it upright, then push it down the street, rolling it with his nose. When done, he carries it home on his back.
100 years ago (1911)
Between the hours of one and two this morning, Joe Johnson of Northeast Brainerd, being overcome by a desire for candy and cigars, broke into the O. S. Swanson store. He was arrested with pockets full of candy and cigars by Officers Quinn and Peterson.
