Crow Wing County unemployment rose in September, but unlike the region, state and nation, was ahead of the jobless rate last year. The September rate was 4.8% unemployed, a rise from the year's low of 4.2% in August, but better than last year's 5.0%.

(Photo) James Wallin of Brainerd, and brothers Jerry, Calvin, and John, all of Nisswa, combined to shoot a 1,200 lb.moose near Lake Three in the Boundary Waters. The animal had a 190-point rack according to the Boone and Crocket scale.

The Red Cross annual roll call is underway in Brainerd, a two-day head start over what was planned. It continues through Thanksgiving. The first person to take out a membership was George Lowe, superintendent of the N. P. Railway yards.

W. B. Jones, of Sylvan, was in the city on his way home from Walker. He has almost completed his contract of dismantling the old Cross Lake railroad. He is piling the scrap and next Monday will commence hauling off the remains.
