Five years of talking has produced little agreement on extending Excelsior Road to the Westgate Mall. Baxter engineer Bruce Buxton has long advocated a new road running from Super One, along the back of Westport and Westgate Malls, to Jackson Street.

30 years ago (1981)
Leonard Larson, according to wife Alice, is an amazing man. Because, at the age of 82, while some of his younger counterparts are complaining of aches and pains, Larson spends much of his time cutting, splitting and loading wood for their home furnace.

40 years ago (1971)

The first letter addressed to “Santa Claus, North Pole” was received at the Brainerd post office this morning. Postmaster Joe Dunn says that he has rushed the letter to the jolly old fellow by airmail because he thinks early letters to Santa will get the best results.

This evening the 7th Street Norwegian Lutheran church will give a decidedly novel entertainment. It is a luncheon, with courses to be eaten at different homes throughout the city, the guests being transported by automobile from one home to another.
