(Photos) Royal Karels of Brainerd lured in this 22-8 northern using a Black Mepps lure at Mille Lacs Lake. Mike Mueske of Brainerd reeled in a 16-8 northern using a spinner bait while fishing on the Mississippi River.

 

30 years ago (1981)

(Photo) A two-week probe into the alleged misuse of funds from the sale of scrap copper wire climaxed yesterday in the seizure of Brainerd Water and Light Dept. records. The sheriff's office will analyze the records to see if sale funds went into city accounts.

Tuberculosis is on the way down in Crow Wing County. The Christmas Seal organization reports that the annual TB death toll here averaged 14 per 100,000 population in the past five years. That's down from almost 20 per 100,000 just ten years ago.

 

80 years ago (1931)

Thursday's hearing here of all parties concerned with construction of a bridge over the Mississippi at the west end of Main Street is expected to favor a concrete structure. The bridge will serve the new route of State Trunk Highway No. 2 through Brainerd.

 

100 years ago (1911)

Ben Mizen has a crew of twenty men laying three miles of cement sidewalks in Crosby. The construction crew is laying a block, or 400 feet, of six-foot walk per day. Building the waterworks will soon commence, including a 100,000 gallon tank on a 120-foot tower.
