(Photo) Fire rescue personnel open the hood of Jack Wyatt's burning top-fuel funny car after it hit the wall at the Quaker State NorthStar Nationals on Sunday at BIR. Wyatt suffered minor burns and was in stable condition at St. Joseph's Hospital.

 

30 years ago (1981)

Seven acres of land in Sylvan Woods was dedicated in honor of Loren Thompson and named “Thompson Memorial Park” by the Baxter City Council. Thompson, a KVBR Radio sportscaster, died last month.

 

40 years ago (1971)

(Photo) “A Team” cup winners of the Northern League Golf Tourney held at the Brainerd Country Club was this team from Brainerd. Holding the cup are Beatsie Fieldman, Eleanor Anderson, Enid Fitzsimons and Arla Bollig.

 

60 years ago (1951)

Evangelical United Brethren moved into the final round of the YMCA Church Softball playoffs with a 13-12 win over the Methodists. Jerry Hill homered to put the Methodists up 12-7 going to the bottom of the 7th, when EUB scored six runs as heavy fog blanketed the field.

 

80 years ago (1931)

“I don't want him prosecuted, I want to teach him a lesson,” said Mrs. Fawcett, wife of Captain Billy, as she brought an employee to county authorities. The man had taken a guest's car, driven to Pequot and damaged it. The man will be forced to pay for damages.

 

100 years ago (1911)

There is mourning in the blacksmith shop and settlement at the Gull Lake dam site. “Teddy,” one of Blacksmith Cassidy's pet blue herons, is dead at St. Cloud after starting his fall migration. The several birds were fed regularly and each had a brass name tag.
