20 years ago (1991)

The Brainerd Warrior tennis team opened its season with a 5-2 victory over Little Falls. In singles, Brainerd's Chris Anderson, Brian Setzler and Rob MacIver were winners. In doubles it was Scott Revenig/Jean Pomerleau and Steve Schaitberger/Chris Costello.

 

30 years ago (1981)

(Adv.) After 27 years of serving Brainerd with fine men's fashions, I have decided to retire and sell Brekken's Men's Store to my son, Bob Jr., and son-in-law, Mark Parrish. My heartfelt thanks to thousands of friends and customers. Bob Brekken, Sr.

 

40 years ago (1971)

The sheriff's department is investigating a number of break-ins over the weekend, including one with many high value items stolen at the Bob Richardson place near Deerwood. 

 

60 years ago (1951)

Fluorine, an element dental authorities believe reduces tooth decay, will be added to the Brainerd water supply if a project of the Jaycees goes through. A Jaycee committee, headed by Brainerd dentist J.E. Echternacht, has been working on the project three weeks.

 

80 years ago (1931)

After defeating Mankato 35-22 in the opener, the Brainerd YMCA basketball team, comprised of members of the Russell Creamery team, lost to Superior in the semi-finals of the Northwest YMCA tournament in St. Paul. The final score was 51 to 27.

 

100 years ago (1911)

Much interest is being taken in the coming Glee and Mandolin Club concert of the University of Minnesota to be given in Brainerd for the benefit of the YMCA. Reserved seats may be purchased at Dunn's Drug Store.
