Bob Gross, Brainerd schools superintendent since 1981, will be named an Administrator of Excellence by the state Association of School Administrators. It will honor his leadership, concern for students and involvement in community affairs.

Anger, shock and sadness were the common reactions of a number of Brainerd residents asked for their reaction to yesterday's assassination attempt on President Reagan. Most were not in favor of stricter gun control, but instead, stricter law enforcement.

Brainerd's defending District 24 and Region 6 high school tennis team opened its season with a 4-1 victory over Anoka. In doubles, Jim MacArthur and Sandy Ruttger teamed for a win, while Dennis Langerman, Andy MacArthur and Stu Seale were singles winners.

After piling up three victories in the 18th Minnesota Demolay Tournament in Minneapolis, the Brainerd Demolay team will play Austin for the title. The team is being guided by Brainerd Warrior high school coach Fred Kellett.

Voters of Brainerd will vote on April 7 to decide if they want a new junior high school built on the north side location favored by the board of education. It would be built on Block 82, after all current buildings are removed, at a total cost of $260,000.

A little German band of six members played music on the street corners today in support of the Bock beer signs. The weather was chilly and the cornet and tuba players were obliged to play with gloves on.
