20 years ago (1991)

After a 12-year absence the Warriors are returning to The Show. Brainerd captured its first Region 8AA basketball title since 1979 with a thrilling 71-64 win over the Moorhead Spuds. Matt Pecarich led the Warriors with 23 points and Kyle Smith added 21.

 

30 years ago (1981)

Brainerd Warrior swimmer Joe Vrudny finished second in the 100-yard backstroke at the state high school championships. The sophomore swam a 55.77 to finish second to John Rydberg of Mounds View, who swam a 55.02. 

 

40 years ago (1971)

It didn't take youngsters long to find out that the burned warehouse in Northeast Brainerd housed candy, popcorn and peanuts. If they keep eating it, it won't take long before they find that eating the products is likely to cause food poisoning, warned the police chief.

Over 900 citizens paid admission at The Grand Theatre last night to see the Miller Brothers “101 Ranch Show.” The pictures and the accompanying lecture were enjoyed by the large audience and three performances were given.
