Concerns raised about possible hazards on S. 6th Street prompted the council to direct its Safety and Public Works committee to review safety there. The street was restriped last fall to create four lanes, a center turn lane and no parking. There was a recent pedestrian death.

(Photo) Nature wouldn't cooperate in Garrison for the start of the Mille Lacs 300 Snowmobile Endurance Derby, as rain combined with warm temperatures forced cancellation. One of the 78 registered drivers used an umbrella to try to keep dry.

Coeds at Brainerd Junior College have been involved in intercollegiate sports programs this year. Darlene Palmer, BJC instructor and coach for the group, arranged a nine-game schedule in volleyball. Basketball was played and a softball team may be organized.

Construction of an $80,000 dial telephone exchange for Nisswa will be started within a few days and is expected to be in service by early summer, according to NW Bell Telephone. An equipment building will be located across from the Mills home in Nisswa.
80 years ago (1931)
Chief of Police Tom Templeton issued a citywide notice that prosecution would follow any further shooting of rifles and air guns in the city. The chief received complaints that stray bullets had crashed through windows in Northeast Brainerd.
100 years ago (1911)
Game Warden J. P. Saunders had three Ross Lake Township men in municipal court this morning. They were charged with shooting two deer near the Aitkin County line and each was fined $25 plus costs. Saunders continues his search for pot hunters.

Today’s DNR and area law enforcement officials say the term ‘pot hunters represents an entirely different demographic with a completely different mission than it did 100 years ago.
If the Republicans succeed in
If the Republicans succeed in destroying the middle class there may be a resurgence in "pot hunting".
But now with our higher population we can exterminate the deer and fish of this area within a decade.
