20 years ago (1991)

The Brainerd wrestling team has enjoyed great success in the Region 8AA tourney the past four years, advancing 18 individual wrestlers to the state meet and winning three team championships. But this year, only Kirk Hayes moves forward for the Warriors.

 

30 years ago (1981)

Crow Wing County deputies defused a potentially serious situation involving kids and dynamite. Skip Rudquist and Dale Christensen found kids had placed three sticks of dynamite in a coffee can wired to a tree. They were shooting at it with a .22, but missed.

 

40 years ago (1971)

There were 102 entries and a crowd of 1,000 at the Gull Lake Drifters' Snowmobile Club races. Big winners were Jim Hilmerson of Little Falls on a Polaris, and the Rudbecks of Brainerd. Rick won twice and Jim once, on their Ski-Doos.

 

60 years ago (1951)

A telephone system went into effect yesterday in Brainerd making it possible for local operators to directly dial a long distance call to a city you're trying to reach if that city is so equipped. Previously the local operator had to work through an regional operator.

 

80 years ago (1931)

Showing more drive, better defense, more accurate shooting and, in general, new life, coach Bill Dammann's Warriors played their best game of the season in downing Little Falls 27-12. Brainerd wore them out with fast, snappy play.

 

100 years ago (1911)

President Taft addressed a special message to Congress recommending legislation to allow liquor to be sold in all parts of Minnesota, except where Indians live.
