Crow Wing County's budget problems worsened Tuesday. Auditor Roy Luukkonen told the county board it will be losing about $335,000 in state aids because of recent legislation to cope with a $197 million projected state budget shortfall.

Joe Vrudny turned in record-breaking times, but Brainerd was overpowered 101-71 by visiting St. Cloud Tech. “Joe had a super night,” said Coach Willy Severson, as Vrudny broke the pool and team records in both the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke.

Aerial surveys and deer yard inspection trips show the deer herd is not in any difficulty yet, said Walt Petraborg, area game manager for the DNR. Despite up to 30 inches of snow there is no crust formed that would hinder their movement.

Until the situation at the Water & Light department is corrected, it's doubtful that there is much need for changes to the city charter, said Ed Tom O'Brien, chairman of the charter commission. He is among 10 of the 15 reappointed to the body who've declined to accept.
