The Brainerd Warrior hockey team equaled the best start in program history with a 5-2 victory over Fargo North in the first round of the Fargo Invitational. Brainerd improved to 5-2, duplicating the feat of the 1980-81 hockey squad.

Recruiting is booming in the Brainerd area in response to the Korean War, according to Sgt. L.A. Nelson and Chief Herb Swader, local recruiters. About 30 will join the army and air force during December, which is triple the usual number enlisting.

(Edit.) Opposition to any plan for use of our lake water that does not guarantee retention of a minimum level is tragic. Water at the Cross Lake dam was at 1.73 feet in October, effectively emptying the lake. Fish and game people tried to save what fish they could.
