Keith Bartholomaus turned aside 29 shots and teammates Jason Johnson and Trevor Wood each scored twice as Brainerd stopped Moorhead 5-1 in the Warriors' home hockey opener at the Civic Center. Its Brainerd's first 5-0 start since the 1980-81 season.

The parents of Edison Elementary School children don't want their school closed, and they turned out in force to give the Brainerd School Board the reasons why. A similar meeting is scheduled at Pine Center Elementary School, also slated to be closed.

With 6-5 center Larry Bunnell bucketing 11 of his 26 points in the final period, and 19 in the second half, the Brainerd Warriors made their first road trip of the season a smashing success with a 58-42 win over Park Rapids.

A Brainerd sailor who served aboard the attack transport George Clymer in the Korean operation is safely back to San Diego. Hospitalman 2nd Class William Demmers is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Demmers. Mr. Demmers is employed at the Dispatch.

The basketball season for Brainerd High School is on and what a wonderful one it promises to be for Coach Bill Dammann's Warriors. Going into the Bemidji game they were underdogs, but surprised 600 local fans by outplaying Bemidji 15-10.

A stray dog that had made itself at home at the Northrup residence, corner of 9th and Front, became annoying to the public and was ordered shot by police officer Barney. Other problem dogs must be sent to the country or tied up; if not, they will be shot.
