County attorney-elect Jack Graham and the county board are going in different directions in selecting three assistant county attorneys. The board says the positions must be advertised under an equal opportunity policy. Graham says he can select who he wants.

An offer by Mesaba Airlines to provide round trip service to Minneapolis was again tabled by the Brainerd - Crow Wing County Airport Commission. Members were unsure how the action might affect Republic Airlines, the airport's major airline.

Sewage disposal systems for lakeshore homes and cottages will have to conform to county standards by July 1, 1977, at the latest, under the state's new Shoreland Management Program. County rules on septic tanks must be in place by July 1, 1972.
60 years ago (1950)
Carl Erickson, municipal judge and commander of the 194th Tank battalion, stepped down from the bench due to activation of his unit. "I want to express my gratitude to the newspapers of Brainerd for faithfully reporting the events that have occurred in this court," Erickson said.
80 years ago (1930)
The fate of over 20 cars remained in doubt this afternoon as 50 Brainerd firemen were winning a fight against flames and smoke in the basement of the Conklin Motor Co., corner of 5th and Front Streets. Early estimate of loss in the spectacular fire was $10,000.
100 years ago (1910)
The city council has adopted resolutions against the "dry" order for liquor establishments in Brainerd, as set forth by Indian agent "Pussyfoot" Johnson. Brainerd stands to lose $14,000 annually in license fees and it would cripple the city financially.

Just curious, but why are the past events occurring on the 17th of December being printed in the "This was Brainerd" column on the 19th?

Mission, Dispatch is ahead of it's time!
They put together the Sat/Sun edition on Friday, which in this instance was 12/17 and of course you must realize they call it the 'Sunday Paper...thereby using the date of the 19th for TWB.
