A demonstration for peaceful resolution of the Persian Gulf crisis is planned for 1-3 p.m. in a grassy area between the Westgate Mall and Washington Street in Brainerd-Baxter. The demonstration has been organized by several groups opposed to war in the Gulf.

Pulpwood is moving in major quantities out of the northern woods this season and shipments through Brainerd average 25 rail cars daily. Most of the wood is coming from north of Bemidji, but about one carload a day is being shipped direct from Brainerd.

Blinded by the lights in the canopy of the Paramount Theatre, a white owl was captured by Leo Turcotte, usher, and is now on display in the lobby. The problem of feeding their new pet means theatre employees are devising ways of catching live mice for the owl.
100 years ago (1910)
Deputy James Quinn left Brainerd to close the only saloon at Klondyke, then will move to Pillager to close its only saloon. The demarcation of the Indian Treaty line between wet and dry runs just west of Pillager, so the saloons in Motley can stay open.
