20 years ago (1990)

Nine Warriors headlined the Dispatch's all-area football team, including: Trevor Wood, Jim Ernster, Keith Bartholomaus and Chad Jillson on defense. Tim Sweet, Chad Virnig, Aron Leckband, Doug Wheeler and Joe Diemer were on the offensive unit.

30 years ago (1980)

(Photo) Walt Doran, a veteran of volunteer work in the Brainerd area, has been selected by a 16-member committee as the 1980 Citizen of the Year over 18 other nominees. Doran, who manages Brainerd Savings & Loan, will be honored at a dinner at the Moose.

40 years ago (1970)

The annual Brainerd High School Symphonic Band concert will be presented Dec. 6 in the high school gym. They will open with "Masque for Symphonic Band." The Stage Band will open with "The Lunceford Special."

60 years ago (1950)

A smooth operating Brainerd high school basketball team opened their 1950-51 season before more than 2,000 fans with a 43-30 victory over Minneapolis Roosevelt. C-I rapped St. Paul Hill-Murray 46-32 in the other half of the doubleheader.

80 years ago (1930)

Snow removal in downtown Brainerd will start immediately by order of the city council. Engineer R.T. Campbell was told to put men to work and give employment to those most needing it. L.C. Kuschel was awarded the residential plowing contract at $1.75 per hour.

100 years ago (1910)

Yesterday final terms were reached between the Brainerd Mining Co. and a party of Pittsburg iron men, whereby a shaft will be sunk in the near future on Section 10 near Buffalo Creek. This is just four miles south of Brainerd next to the railroad tracks.
