Crow Wing County Attorney-elect Jack Graham has proposed nomination of Bruce Alderman as deputy county attorney. He further proposed that current assistant county attorneys and the secretary be kept on as employees.

30 years ago (1980)

McGregor, Aitkin and Little Falls scored wins, and favored Staples settled for a 13-all tie with scrappy Pine River, in the Annual Crosby-Ironton Jamboree 16-minute basketball scrimmages. Aitkin jumped out to an 8-0 lead over Brainerd and held on for a 19-13 win.

40 years ago (1970)

Cold shooting to the tune of 25 of 89 shots (27 percent) marred the BSJC Red Raiders attack, allowing the Lake Region Royals to take a quick, 10-point lead. They continued to an 83-63 triumph and the championship of the Raiders Thanksgiving Tournament.

60 years ago (1950)

Ticket reservations have been made for 2,981 rural students from the 105 schools in the trade area who will converge on Brainerd for the annual rural kids Christmas party. There will be free movies and cartoons at both Brainerd theaters; then Santa Claus will arrive.

80 years ago (1930)

Brainerd's city-wide drive to raise $6,500, needed to assist the poor who cannot be aided by the city poor fund, will start soon. Solicitors will wear identification badges, said Dr. J.A. Thabes, chairman of the Brainerd Community Relief Fund.

100 years ago (1910)

History will be made at the meeting of the Northern Minnesota Development Assn. in this city the next two days. All eyes are on Brainerd. Delegations are coming here with intent of bringing northern Minnesota into her own, especially reapportionment.
