(Photo) Three court-appointed inspectors are at work today recounting the ballots in the contest for county judge between Robert Graff and William Hudson, both of Aitkin. With the counters are Roy Luukkonen of the auditor's office and Conrad Bye, county auditor.

40 years ago (1970)

Santa Claus is coming to town on Friday. He will arrive at the Brainerd Mall via helicopter at 10 a.m., and in downtown Brainerd by horse and sleigh at 11 a.m. at the Brainerd Theater.

60 years ago (1950)

Representatives of 14 cities on the air route of Wisconsin Central airlines met at the Brainerd airport to discuss renewal of the airlines permit at several Minnesota airports. The Civil Aeronautics Board says there is not enough passenger traffic to renew.

80 years ago (1930)

A new record has been established in the number of big game licenses issued in Crow Wing County. This season over 1900 licenses were issued, according to deputy auditor Henry Krause. Two years ago, the last open season, less than 800 licenses were issued.

100 years ago (1910)

Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Sheets, recently of Long Prairie, have arrived in this city, where Mr. Sheets has purchased the old Arena printing plant from Congressman C.A. Lindbergh. Within a week he will start publication of a new weekly paper, the Brainerd Journal.
