Election results get sign-off from Minnesota Canvassing Board

Posted: November 27, 2012 - 4:13pm

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota's 2012 election is officially the largest in state history.

The state Canvassing Board on Tuesday certified results showing that there were 30,000 votes more than the previous high-water mark. Just shy of 3 million people cast ballots.

The board's signoff formally validates what had been unofficial results in the race for president, U.S. Senate, Congress, the state Legislature and more. There were also two constitutional amendments that voters rejected.

Two legislative races are bound for recounts. One involves an unofficial 11-vote advantage by Republican Rep. Mary Franson of Alexandria over Democratic rival Bob Cunniff. The other is a review of a 78-vote edge Democratic candidate Kevin Dahle has over Republican Mike Dudley in a Northfield-area district.

Democrats will have majorities in both legislative chambers regardless of the recount outcomes.
