■ Gazelka wins Senate
District 9 seat
Sen. Paul Gazelka, R-Cass County, defeated former Rep. Al Doty, DFL-Royalton, 53.7 percent to 46.30 percent in Tuesday’s election for the Senate District 9 seat. The vote totals were Gazelka, 20,255, and Doty, 17,505.
Previously Gazelka served one term in the House and one two-year term in the Senate.
Gazelka said he won all four counties and half of them were new counties for him. He moved into the district earlier this year after redistricting. The Baxter insurance agent said he moved 20 miles from his previous home. An assistant majority leader during the last session, he said he would like to serve in a leadership role on the minority side in the Senate this session.
“I’m glad that I built respect and bridges among the Democratic Party,” he said.
Doty could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Add commentWHAT??? Respect from Dem party?? Are you out of
your mind? Sen. Gazelka is known by the Dem. party, but no one has "respect" for him.
Gazelka, unfortunately, was re-elected (in Cass Co.) even
though he wasted the State's time and precious revenue on divisive social issues/Amendments. But that's just who he is. Even though the discriminatory amendment was rejected, Gazelka (one of those responsible for Repub's losing their majority in the Legislature) gets to go back to the Legislature with his antiquated, discriminatory, unconstitutional ideas. How about "jobs, jobs, jobs" this time, Sen. Gazelka. You can take the man out of Oral Roberts University ('cuz he graduated), but you can't take the ORU outa Gazelka. Again, if that's what the district wants -- you deserve him.
Do tell. What should we do about . . .

way to work together you are a spoiled child.just like you'r leader
If you disagree, you are spoiled?
Gazelka represents what many of us worked hard to eliminate. And we won by and large. So he needs to reach across the aisle now and forget those divisive social issues and stick to the economy and education.
Will he do that?
We shall see. As a minority leader, he will be in a good position to be seen as a leader for Minnesota, not just the minority who share his ultra conservative views.
Spinning out of control
This has got to have the DFL faithful spinning out of control. Why is it that rural areas trend GOP(Conservitative) and the urban areas DFL(Liberal)? You would think the opposite or just maybe the Liberals have taken over the DFL and let the Farm go, keeping the Labor around to support the Liberal agenda.
not the person to encourage collaboration/cooperation.
If Senator Gazelka is given a leadership role, it will be very difficult for the Senate to build bridges between the two parties. Gazelka seems to push the agenda of the extreme tea party Republicans. He's not the person to lead his minority party in collaboration and cooperation.

Sheep like living in flocks/herds!!! Cities.
Gotta PointThere...
It's that numbers(flock/herd) provide safety from predators but they still need someone to move them from grazing spots and offer additional protection from predators. I guess that is where big government takes the spot of the sheep herder eh?
10% home brew? I'll know that isn't Sasquatch howling at the full moon.
