MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Democrat Rick Nolan has beaten Republican Rep. Chip Cravaack (kruh-VAK') to recapture a northeastern Minnesota seat long considered Democratic turf.
Nolan will return to Congress more than 30 years after he served during the Ford and Carter administrations.
Cravaack was the first Republican to represent the district in more than 60 years, and was out to prove his upset of an 18-term Democrat two years ago was no fluke. Nolan was trying to make a comeback after decades out of politics. Democrats viewed the race as one of their best chances to gain a House seat.
National groups spent millions attacking both candidates.

Add commentRick ran the most arduous
and extensive campaign in the history of the 8th District. He traveled tirelessly to every village and town and talked to thousands of citizens. In spite of the millions spent on negative ads, his message prevailed.
Congratulations to him, his family and his entire team of campaigners!
Who Is Deranged?
This post is why the conservatives will continue losing elections. These kinds of comments turn off the majority of voters. Keep it up...you are helping our cause. Have you ever considered running for office?
Hey Bondo
You can't turn off an Iron Ranger any more than they already are. That's historically proven. Have I ever considered running for office? Been there, done that, MN House, 12 years ago. The only thing that will help the conservatives is when they learn how to lie, cheat and steal like the libs, and I have to give you credit for that one. You have a large advantage in that category.
Thank Goodness You Lost
CharlieM, if you ran 12 years ago with your current mindset, Thank Goodness You Lost! Or did you lose? Whew... now there is a alarming thought!
LIes? You mean like Romney's lie about Jeep? His lies about his economic recovery plan helping the middle class?
Cheat? You mean like how the Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania officials tried their best to disenfranchise thousands of voters? Does Karl Rove ring a bell?
"I'm Rubber, You're Glue" applies to you Republicans.
I see...
The stock market is tanking today. Down over 300 points. I wonder why?
Well Wolf
The only logical answer is George Bush.
wolf. everyone is sleeping.
But gas prices are going down.
Southie
We have been told many times on here buy the oil guru that the President has no control of gas prices.
exactly, ruby
But you think his election or Mitt's loss effects the stock market? Time will tell.
It's still a good day!
RE: Today's stock mkt. drop
NBC's summary of temp. stock mkt. drop:
Europe's continuing problems (they went the "auterity"route, as you'll recall)
The "investment community" is really worried about the possibility that their taxes will go up (and they might have to pay the same percent as the working class person in Brainerd; bummer, man)
Worry about the "fiscal cliff", since everyone in Washington seems to be set in cement regarding compromise.
And, finally, the sell off was "expected", because the strategy of "sell now, think later" always prevails.
One other commentator said some of the "coal interests" were worried that American's will suddenly understand and respect actual science, and move forward on climate change issues. Doubtful. I have all kinds of faith in the stupidity of Americans as it regards the science of climate change.
Anybody seen Fubby????
Here Fubby Fubby......all of us communists cooked you up a little crow, we put it in your bowl for you, whenever you get out of the psych ward.....
In your face Hansen
Nice try with all of your anti-Obama sentiment the past months, kinda blew up in your face eh???? 100+ electoral victory!!!!!!!
I want to, but I can't, Itter.
I can't give you a "thumbs-up" on "Fubby". I already "gave at the office" in terms of my pot-shots in the aftermath of an election that I think is good for every-day Americans. But, I know that FNB is such an easy target -- he thrives on making it so. He begs us to give him a thumbs-down. But he's family now, so I'll wait and give him a thumbs-down when he says a bone-headed thing. Just like real family! I like all of the folks on this website. It's like a comfortable, extended, dysfunctional family of sorts.
A bridge too far -- I'll gladly give you a thumbs up on Hansen,
Itter. That's a different story. He's not any sort of on-line family. He has manipulated/wierdly guided the conversation on this site. I don't respect his "guidance".

Maybe Keith will do an interview with Mr. Orson Swindle III about the election results. That would be an original column at least.
In case you've forgotten this awe-inspiring diatribe:

Bubba and Southie
Which one of the "communists" will Fubby attack first??? He's infatuated with Eye.....Southie, ha good one, Swindle makes Hansen look liberal
And I forgot that Swindle was on the speakeasy
They could invite him back to talk about the election.
Of course Guy might have a heart attack reliving yesterday.
What I wonder is --- does Keith keep his job after this election
-- or did he fail, in the opinion of those who strategically placed him here?
And, if he doesn't view it as "licking wounds", but rather
re-gathering and thinking about all of this - - - then, once again, we ALL might have to do a long and hard look at what makes us better people. We can all do better.
I Rick Nolan
will vote for every pay raise because I deserve it.
The stock market goes up and
The stock market goes up and down on an almost daily basis.
I would hope that the drop means that they know that Mitt won't be able to help the leeches by overturning the Dodd legislation. We need more regulation of Wall Street not less.
Maybe Mitt withdrew his money and moved it to the Caymen Islands
one late night comedians comment on the stock market going down right after the election.
Take a deep breath everyone. Democrats felt down when GWB was re-elected and life went on. Most people I talked to said Obama inherited a mess and they were willing to give him four more years since recovery was happening. Slowly, but they were not willing to return to the failed policies of the GWB years.
Fishhead ... I find it hard
Fishhead ... I find it hard to believe you even know what is in Dodd-Frank. How much are you willing to pay for basic banking services?
Will Obamma
blame his first four years in office for the mess he inherited for his second term?
Took George W 8 years to wind up the mess...
Will take Obama 8 years to unwind the mess...
