Crow Wing County DFLers conduct annual convention
BAXTER — More than 90 Crow Wing County DFLers met Saturday, to conduct the annual Crow Wing County DFL Convention at Forestview Middle School. The meeting was open to guests, but only delegates who were elected at precinct caucuses in February were allowed to vote.
Area endorsed candidates Rep. John Ward, DFL-Brainerd, Joe Radinovich, and Taylor Stevenson each addressed the body. Rick Nolan, a candidate for endorsement for the 8th District U.S. Congress race spoke, as did Doug Clark, husband of candidate Tarryl Clark. Matt Freeman, field director for Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s campaign read a letter on her behalf.
The delegates elected the following directors to serve two-year terms on the executive board: Nicola Brambilla, Wayne Altonen, Anna Yakle, Deb Wallace Hasskamp, Kiley Breda, Robert Nesheim, Kathlene Meyer, Jesse Bleichner, Wayne Fleischhacker, Gwen Besnett, and Eric Norquist. Board Officers are elected in odd years. Tiffany Stenglein, Tom Besnett, Steve Barrows, Chris Kelly and Kathy Hegstrom will continue in their two-year terms as officers until 2013.
The convention also elected delegates to the Congressional District 8 DFL Convention and the State DFL Convention. These delegates will represent the county in the endorsement process and other party business that takes place at those conventions.

What name is your's up there??
GO DFLers!
Good to see our leaders names there in print!
BTW: Where is the GOP convention report? Who is representing them at the state convention? I looked on their web site, and, would you believe, it has still not been updated since February 2010!!
C'mon, Dispatch, help the public out here with a little GOP information. The stories should have been side by side. Aren't they proud of their representatives?
GO DFL!!
Slow day
in Eden Prairie?
Fair Warning to Chip Cravaack , Where ever you moved to
It appears there were a bunch of Northern MN residents that all got together and were talking about your voting record in Congress ,as well as all the fine contributions you have accomplished representing your Minnesota district.
Dear Go DFLers
I've never respected anyone very much who states an inflammatory hit comment, and then hides behind a username. So how about a new standard in our town...how about if you want to share opinions clearly meant to insult or deride, you share your real name. I'll start.
I'll tell you something else I've never respected. I've never respected anyone who plays partisan games to win elections. Worrying about the GOP website is not the message I'm waiting to hear from the DFL regarding their ideas for fixing the mess we are in.
Could it be they have no message and so they are forced to worrying about some website and the next convention?
This isn't a game to me. This is real life. Real issues. Real people hurting. Real people without jobs.
I hope you will stop playing politics, and post something productive to move our community forward.
Oh, and be brave. I am. Every day.

Numbers
What I find interesting about the story is only 90 people showing up to carry on the good fight. Roughly 92 Republicans showed Saturday for the endorsing convention. Both are spectacularly low numbers and while its still early in the year, I wonder if they indicate lack of interest in the two major parties. Are people in general going about their lives and remaining ignorant as possible to keep their sanity? Who knows. We have real problems in the nation, some that may lead to a sudden and disastrous end to the freedom and liberty we enjoy but instead of dealing with the cliff ahead of us, we're rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Perhaps the summer will be better. By the way, Crow Wing County Republicans elect board members only in non-election years so that was news last year about this time. And yes, I still want my name at the bottom of this post. I want people to know how I feel and think.
two conventions
Saturday was the yearly DFL county convention, the DFL SD 10 endorsing convention was the week before and there were about 150 people at that one.
But their endorsing
But their endorsing convention included all of Aitkin County so it is apples and oranges.
GOP endorsing convention was also Aitkin and Crow Wing
90 people showed up for the GOP endorsing convention from both counties.
The DFL had 150 people show up at their endorsing convention with both counties. How's the math?
That's a 60 person difference for the same event.
Marsbar, check the post.
90 from Crow Wing County. Didn't mention how many from Aitkin. Probably another 40 or so. The point is that these 150 represent a 70,000 population. That's a little disturbing. Sure, US congressmen represent a large number of voters but not grass roots delegates. This is not a discussion about who's number is bigger but a discussion of an electorate that seems to be going on about their lives while we spend beautiful spring days in meetings. Is the parade disappearing behind us?
clarifying
90 delegates were at the Crow Wing County annual DFL Convention on March 31 in Baxter (no Aitkin.) Aitkin had their own county convention the same day, in Aitkin.
And as Lake noted, there is no clue how many were at the Crow Wing GOP convention late February since there was no press release from that group. Only their SD 10 endorsing convention that Mike O'Rourke covered.
The SD 10 Crow Wing- Aitkin DFL endorsing convention was 150 delegates on March 24th. The Aitkin-Crow Wing delegates were about 1/2 and 1/2 even split someone said.
Two weekends in a row, that shows a lot of commitment on a nice Spring day. Just for clarification.
