Occupy Brainerd event to target Cravaack

Occupy Brainerd event to target Cravaack

Rep. Chip Cravaack, R-Minn., is the target of an Occupy Brainerd event set for 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Sixth and Washington streets in Brainerd. The theme of the event, according to organizer Terry Sluss of Baxter, is “Congressman Cravaack: New Hampshire is still not in the 8th District.”

Sluss said the boundaries for redistricting will be released for Minnesota late Tuesday.

Michael Bars, a spokesman for Cravaack, said Cravaack’s home is in North Branch. When his wife was promoted and transferred she tried to commute, but it was too difficult a strain on the family since Cravaack was commuting to and from Washington, Bars said.

The family has a second home in New Hampshire.

“It’s unfortunate that some still cling to these disingenuous political attacks,” Bars said. “Chip lives in North Branch. If people can’t understand the sacrifice Chip made as a husband and a father, then there’s not a lot more they’re going to see eye-to-eye on.”

The Occupy Brainerd event is sponsored by the Central Lakes Senior Caucus, Brainerd Trades and Labor, Occupy Brainerd Peaceful Movement and several other organizations and individuals.

Sluss is a former Crow Wing County commissioner and DFL candidate for state senator. He said the group’s goal is to approach 100 members for the event.

Why don't you find something

Why don't you find something more productive to do with your time than standing around in a parking lot? Maybe next you can do an Occupy Merrifield event and target fish farmers!

try this

dean1961 --- The democratic process includes making one's opinions known. The Occupy people may do what they want. The Tea Party people (who also stand on corners and parking lots) may do what they want. Judgmental comments add nothing to this process.

The Occupy People Should Include Walker MN IN THE FUTURE

Since 2000 of the 4000 votes that put Tea Party Chip into office for his one term came from Cass County. Can hardly wait to see what the new and improved 8th district looks like.

Living with Mom

and how many years did Oberstar live with Mom? T.C. taking a page out of the Hilary book and moving to Duluth. At least Nolan has roots planted in the soil.

You would think that the local Trades and Labor would have more to do than support a retired public employee pursuit of demonizing the private sector and job creators.

Here is how the OWS people make their opinions known, and I apologize that the Tea Partiers haven't learned this:

Sexual assault upon an 18-year old
Trying to sell heroin
Felony prostitution
Public [filtered word]
Grand Larceny, Menacing, Harassment and Criminal Possession of a Weapon
Assault on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration
Burning the American Flag
Destroying City Hall
•Arson, $10 million in damage
•Murder, Fatal shooting

Should I go on? Mr. Sluss is entitled to his opinion, but one should have respect and that is one thing you cannot Goggle when it is paired with the words "Occupy"!

Cravaack got 5000 more votes in Crow Wing than did Oberstar... so what's your point?

Pudnut : All that happened in Braionerd?

I honestly don't get your point with your list. Are you saying all OCCUPY people have no respect? Are you saying that your list is the ONLY thing that comes out of the OCCUPY people's mind? Are you saying GOOGLE is the answer to everything? I honestly don't get your point.

cute

It's always funny to see the hypocritical side of little people who cheer for other human beings.

But no, republicans and democrats aren't the same thing at all. The Cravaack-North Branch anger isn't at all like the Oberstar-Chisholm anger. Totally different stuff.

Losers. Tiny little losers.

I'ld rather be a pudnut than a complete idiot with my head buried in the sand. And if you and ziggy cannot put the pieces of the puzzle together, I would say that pretty much sums up liberals and dems, yappers with nothing relevant to say.

occupy your mind

Obama took the helm during one of the worst financial downturns in the history of this country. Some predicted we would plunge into a depression. We did not. In fact we are headed forward in a slow recovery, but a recovery.

Obama lowered taxes for 95% of taxpayers.

Obamacare is more moderate than critics claim. The CBO had projected it will reduce the deficit, and not increase it like GWB's unfunded Medicare Prescription Drug benefit did. This idea was pioneered by the archconservative Heritage Foundation. It does not have a public option, it gives a huge new client base to insurance companies. Making 44 million free-riders pay into the system is not fiscally reckless. This was a Republican idea before Obama did it.

If GWB had taken out bin Laden and wiped out al Qaeda's leadership he would be on Mount Rushmore by now.

A depression was averted. The bailout of the auto industry was successful. Even most of the bank bailouts have been repaid. The Iraq War has ended. Torture has been ended.

Obama has reached across the aisle extending a hand and gotten a fist from the Republicans.

Those are my 'relevant' thoughts for tonight.

Wow reading all the replies

Wow reading all the replies it is absolutely no wonder why this entire country is in shambles. Everyone is at each others throughts and why? Fix the corrupt banking industry, corrupt trade industry, corrupt Congress, and pretty much eliminate all dems and republicans, [filtered phrase], ows, everyone from having any political parties! Both parties spend %99 of their time at work scheming to just screw the other,or ploting new benifits for themselves while at the same time working to cut the payroll of police and everyone else than can suck a dime out of to put back in their pocket. my god enough is enough, just last week Congress threw in a sneaky add on that allows members of congress to retire earlier than any other federal employee and to retire years earlier and retire at full pay!, all in the same bill to lower Federal law enforcements pay %10, even though they are the lowest payed.I guess I'm confused why the people who carry an ink pen to work in Washington feel the need to keep their $168,000 plus a year job and take from the people who make $60,000 a year, you know the people who protect us and need to carry guns and wear body armor to work.Time to clean house and right the ship, unfortunately the bickering over everything and any little thing between DEMS and REPUBS will ultimately be the downfall of the USA.

Iamigra and Zachnos

Iamigra: where do you figures come fom as far as slashing plice budgets? With the increasing militarization of the police, today the avaerage citizen stands a greater chance of being murdered in their beds by a S.W.A.T. team than the victim of a "crime". We just saw a news item this week about a tiny east coast town hoping to use homeland security gifts to buy a "tank" (google Keene, NH) to terrorize its citizens. Maybe the $270K gift could be used in better ways, ya think?

Zach: I think you get what PDNett wants to say, but I'll explain it anyway. In his mind, all the crazies that show up at an event like this one define it, especially if he thinks the event is something he's opposed to. OTOH, if anything similar happens at an event sponsored by a group he likes, its an "isolated occurance", brought on by crazies who want to discredit his bunch.

"Consservatives" often have much tighter security, and suffer less of this sort of thing; while it looks like safety and sanity to folks like PDNett, it can also be seen as xenophobic paranoia. When the OWS folks fail to consider that the loonies wil show up, was it an oversight, or was it, as PDNett wants to suggest, a defining moment...the OWS folks, at best are shortsighted, but more likely criminal, encouraging the crazies to come out, even maybe creating an event like this so they could commit crimes themselves amid the chaos.

PDNett's (and those like him) worldview needs a rigid hierarchy, with a strongman at the top to function. He isn't able to concieve of any other system actually functioning. He believes anyone not like him is undeserving of anything, including the freedom to live their life in ways that he's even a little uncomfortable with.

My figures come from my place

My figures come from my place of employment, I get to see things you people don't. The homeland security ''gift'' actually has a name attached to it but I can not reveal it. And please for the love of God why do you people always try to spin everything?

''the avaerage citizen stands a greater chance of being murdered in their beds by a S.W.A.T. team than the victim of a "crime".

Wow really? Are you that wracked in the head? And to say 'terrorize'' the public? It is a wonder you got through the 3rd grade (If you did), you Sir are one of the problems in this country, completely off your rocker, mad at the world. Tell you what EYOLF if you stop committing crimes the SWAT team will stop coming into your bedroom at night to kill you, wow what an idiot. And please the aluminum foil hat you wear isn't fitting, its a bit to tight.

Murdered by a SWAT Team???

"today the avaerage citizen stands a greater chance of being murdered in their beds by a S.W.A.T. team than the victim of a "crime"."

Really, in 2007 (most current data, Wiki) there were 201 mistaken killings by all police in the U.S. In 2011, according to CNN, there were 166 police officers killed in the line of duty. In 2010, US Crime Center reported, there were 14,748 murders in the United States.

One must take into consideration the source of that statement, by Mr. eyolf. I still find it curious that this publication allows him such liberties and at the same time blocks/removes/deletes postings of so many other people on here.

Snowda,

I agree 100% but I also think that posts should be deleted if they contain nothing the resembles the truth, as in ewolf statement; "today the avaerage citizen stands a greater chance of being murdered in their beds by a S.W.A.T. team than the victim of a "crime"." If you are to have any chance of a serious dialogue then you have to agree that you need some basis of fact.

So, who will the final arbiter of truth be?

The wonderful thing about 'civil' open discussion is that misconceptions and mis-statements can be challenged (and occasionally even cleared up).

"So, who will the final arbiter of truth be?"

Chey, how about "factual" data and not this "I read this somewhere or I got an email". I know that it's alot to ask and it would take much of the humorous reading away from this forum but it would take my neck pain away from shaking my head in disbelief!!
