Supreme court denies Eastwood petition for review in racially motivated assault case
A petition for review by convicted felon Lucas Eastwood of Backus was denied by the Minnesota Supreme Court.
The supreme court filed its ruling Tuesday.
Eastwood was sentenced to eight years and seven months in prison after being convicted in the Feb. 6, 2011, assault of Willie Navy.
Eastwood was one of two men who pleaded guilty to the assault. He was sentenced to the maximum prison term for the felony first-degree assault, which police said was motivated in part because Navy is black. The two convicted in the case, Eastwood and Travis Campbell, are white. Navy’s injuries included significant face trauma and fractured bones around his eye.
