A 15-year-old male was arrested Thursday night in the shooting death of a 57-year-old Riverton man.
Crow Wing County Lt. Dave Larson said the sheriff’s office received a report at 9:04 p.m. Thursday of a shooting incident at a home on Main Street in Riverton.
Officers from Crow Wing County and the Crosby Police Department responded to the residence and found the body of a 57-year-old male who was an apparent victim of a gunshot wound.
An investigation began and officers tracked the 15-year-old suspect to a laundromat in Crosby, taking him into custody there.
Larson said the name of the victim was not going to be released until Saturday pending notification of the family.
Crow Wing County Attorney Don Ryan said the juvenile male was charged with second-degree intentional murder during a detention hearing in Crow Wing County District Court Friday afternoon. The suspect remains in custody, said Ryan.
Since the suspect is under the age of 16, no other information in the case, including the court petition detailing the charge against the suspect, is available to the public. Ryan declined to comment when asked if the suspect would be certified and prosecuted as an adult. If this happens, then the information would be released.
Investigators with the sheriff’s office, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office are continuing the investigation.
