Ruud: Iron Range study completed
Sen. Carrie Ruud, R-Breezy Point, has announced the completion of the Iron Range Fiscal Disparities Study. The Iron Range Fiscal Disparities Program was established in 1996 was designed to share commercial-industrial tax-base in the region known as the “taconite assistance area.”
The study was conducted in response to legislation authored by Sen. Ruud to eliminate the Iron Range Fiscal Disparities Program. The compromise legislation included in last year’s tax bill required this study be completed in an effort to analyze the program, before making any changes to it.
“I’m excited the study was able to be completed so quickly and now we can scrutinize the impact of the program on the communities of the Iron Range,” said Ruud. “Sen.Rod Skoe, the chair of the Tax Committee has indicated he intends to hold a hearing this session to discuss the findings of the study.”
