A search for a missing 22-year-old man, last seen by friends as he drove away on a snowmobile, led to the scene of a fatal crash.
At 11:23 a.m. Saturday, the Todd County Sheriff’s department received a report of a missing man, Jared Wallenfelsz. The Maple Grove resident was last seen at 1:30 a.m. Saturday by friends as he drove a snowmobile from his family’s cabin on Long Lake near Burtrum.
Todd County deputies searched the area on snowmobile. They located Wallenfelsz and his crashed snowmobile at 12:43 p.m. Saturday on a wooded lake lot on the lake’s northwest side. The Todd County Sheriff’s office reported Wallenfelsz died as a result of the crash.
The sheriff’s office said poor visibility due to weather, alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors in the crash.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources assisted in the incident. The crash remains under investigation.
