Two consecutive issues of the Brainerd Dispatch were named among the Top 10 by Newseum.
That brings the Top 10 award total to 13 for the newspaper since the redesign less than two years ago.
It’s the second time the newspaper has had two consecutive issues named on the Top 10 list.
The most recent awards are for the 2013 Christmas Eve and Christmas Day editions.
“It’s an amazing thing,” Dispatch Publisher Tim Bogenschutz said of the honors. “We’ve got some of the best photographers anywhere and great layout people. Put that together and you’ve got great papers. Being recognized this many times is beyond belief.”
The Newseum is a museum of news and news history in Washington, D.C. According to its website, every morning more than 800 newspapers from around the world submit their front pages to the Newseum via the Internet to be part of “Today’s Front Pages.” Different daily editors pick the top 10 and may focus on headlines, photos, innovative design or something else that elevates 10 pages above the rest.
Bogenschutz added that the 13 times of being named in the Top 10 shows that the Dispatch is a progressive newspaper.
“We’re being recognized by our peers,” he said. “This is a big deal ... I’m proud of our staff.”
