Two Brainerd High School alumnae will be featured as honored guests Feb. 8 at The Big Event — a gathering in support of current and future students of the Brainerd public schools.
Brainerd High School graduates Rebecca Yeh, class of 2011, and Jessica Miles, class of 1995, are the featured graduates. The Brainerd Public Schools Foundation invites the public to join them and hundreds of like-minded community members from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 8 at The Big Event at Cragun’s sports center to support Brainerd High School’s current and future students as they reach for the stars.
Presenting sponsors Lindar Corporation and Lakeland Mold Co. will welcome honored guests and Miles, KSTP-St. Paul television anchor, as master of ceremonies; and Miss Minnesota, Yeh, who will perform. Joining them on stage will be current students showcasing their talent in a brief program.
Tickets are $50 and include a plated dinner, cash bar, electronic silent auction by Auctions by Cellular sponsored by Lakes Printing, and a live auction with a professional auctioneer. A sampling of the silent and live auction items include: CMA (Country Music Awards) package including airfare for two, three nights stay at Loews Vanderbilt hotel and tickets for two to The 2014 CMA Awards, Jack Pine Brewery Experience for 20 with catering from Prairie Bay Restaurant, a variety of Minnesota Sports Packages including Gophers, Wild and Twins tickets, and a Pontoon Tour of Gull Lake with fine dining.

The Brainerd Public Schools Foundation exists to support the 4As of Arts, Academics, Activities, and Athletics and ensure opportunities to go beyond the strong fundamentals taught in the classroom exist by awarding annual grants. BPSF has reached its milestone of $100,000 granted over the years and at The Big Event the recipients of the 2014 grants will be announced in the 4As:
■ ARTS — The personal choice to support this fund delivers beauty of art into the lives of our students. This includes musical instruction and equipment, arts programming and curriculum, residency programs, along with field trips to museums or concerts.
■ ACADEMICS — Pure and simple, this fund supports the array of ever-changing academic needs for our students. Past grants have supported needs for classroom equipment, technology upgrades, leveled books, scientific equipment, library needs, visual aids and in-house expert speakers.
■ ACTIVITIES — This expansive fund helps support clubs along with extracurricular activities. These include Debate, Chess Club, Rotary Interact Club, Class Cabinet, Knowledge Bowl, Yearbook, FFA, Student Council and Mock Trail, among others.
■ ATHLETICS — The Brainerd Public Schools Foundation works closely with Brainerd Sports Boosters to support equipment needs and fee assistance Brainerd Public school athletes.
The Brainerd Public Schools Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created in 1987.
