A Friday night fire ripped through a split-level house and left a family of four without a home.
The call came in to the Brainerd Fire Department at 10:53 p.m. for a porch fire on Travis Trail off Highway 371.
While firefighters were en route, flames spread to the house, said Brainerd Fire Chief Kevin Stunek.
Winds helped spread the fire throughout the house.
“It was pretty intense damage,” Stunek said. “It totaled the house.”
The family saw the flames quickly and got out, avoiding injury. The American Red Cross is assisting them.
The Brainerd Fire Department called in mutual aid from Nisswa and Little Falls, which each brought two engines.
More than 40 firefighters battled flames for about two and a half hours.
“It was a long night,” Stunek said. “They did a great job considering the amount of fire there was. I want to thank (Nisswa and Little Falls) for the mutual aid assistance.”
The cause of the fire is undetermined and is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s office.
