Foreclosures moved higher last month, but remain significantly lower than during the height of the housing market meltdown.
Crow Wing County recorded 23 sheriff’s certificates, or foreclosures, this past September. Another 26 property owners were facing a pending foreclosure.
In August, the county had 10 foreclosures, matching June for the lowest monthly numbers recorded in seven years. In between, July had the highest single month total, at 26, for foreclosures this year.
To date, the county recorded 157 foreclosures. With three months left in the year, the current numbers are well below the number of foreclosures reached in previous autumns when foreclosures pushed toward 300 by September of 2011.
A year ago in September, the county recorded 19 foreclosures and had 29 more looming in the wings. In 2011, there were 18 foreclosures and 43 more were pending. In 2004, there were 68 foreclosures for the entire year. The number rose to 101 in 2005 and has stayed in triple digits since then.
